PITTSBURGH – A Sheraden woman has been charged with animal cruelty after police had to rescue her dog Yorkie from her hot car, where the animal was left without water.
Miyah Grant, 29, has been charged by subpoena and a preliminary hearing is scheduled for this fall.
The car was parked on East Carson Street on June 29 when a police officer saw a tiny dog ”trying to hide under the seat” to avoid the sun. The policeman managed to open the car and get the dog who was panting and shaking out.
According to a criminal complaint, the temperature was 96 degrees that day with a heat index well above 100 degrees. The car windows were barely cracked, police said.
Police searched the area and found Grant “enjoying the day swimming in a public pool,” according to the criminal complaint.
The dog was moved indoors in the air conditioning and given water before being returned to Grant.
